The traditional structure is both a home and a workplace at the same time: stables at ground level, residence on the first floor, cereal store in the attic. The villages are closely packed, with narrow paved alleys between the houses, protected by the jutting roofs. The roofs themselves are covered in big stone slabs called "losa". Today, the changing living requirements have transformed the use of these buildings; the traditional building materials and techniques have taken on a new importance for restoration and for the conservation of the rural look of the villages.
