Long ride with lake ride

Orco Valley

This circuit connects the Borgata Prese to the Ceresole Lake ring route, with a connecting track on a dirt and slooping road suitable for E-bike or well trained bikers. A very long ride, varied and pleasant, between larches and turquoise waters, with several refreshment options and stops where you can gaze to the peaks of the Orco Valley. Since this is a three parted circuit, there are many options to choose the starting point and the arrival, riding in different ways.

The ring route of Lake Ceresole

Orco Valley

A picturesque route that skirts the entire lake with reflections from the water and the pleasant shade of the larch on the southern shoreline. It is also suitable for children as they can stop to play in the equipped areas. A part of the route follows a dirt road with only one sloping section near the dam. You can start from Pian della Balma or the village of Villa where bicycles can be rented.

The Borgata Prese ring route

Orco Valley

A short easy ring route on dirt roads, suitable for everyone which departs from the Grand Hotel, a historic building that once hosted the rulers and aristocracy of Piedmont. Half way along the route you can taste the ferruginous spring waters and at the end of the route you can find out about relationship between man and the alpine ibex at the Homo et Ibex Visitor Centre (Grand Hotel). The route is served well with accommodation and play areas for small children.

Lake Teleccio

Orco Valley

The entirely paved route from Rosone to the top of the artificial Teleccio lake has an altitude difference of 1.200 m and is suitable for cyclists in a good state of training. The second half of the route, after San Giacomo, is on the private road of IREN S.p.A. The route is very demanding but in the climb up the large wild valley you will find silence and a rugged landscape overlooked by sheer cliffs.

Horse riding and Cycling

Orco Valley

A beautiful route along the valley bottom amid the green meadowlands and tranquillity of the woods, accompanied by the sounds of nature. The route passes through old villages and follows the course of the Orco River. A small detour in the centre of Locana brings you to the Antichi e nuovi mestieri (old and new trades) Visitor Centre where a beautiful little animated theatre tells the story of the hard life of the chimneysweeps. The route can also be started from Rosone, or it can be shortened by starting from piazza Gran Paradiso di Locana in either of the two directions (Sparone or Rosone).

Alpe Carello

Orco Valley

This scenic route follows the paved road which climbs as far as Alpe Carello. From here there is a beautiful walk to Alpe Cialma. A picturesque basin, full of pastures and woods hundreds of years old, enclosed by two mountain slopes and right at the top (La Cialma or Punta Cia m 2.193) the view encompasses the Gran Paradiso range.

Cambrelle Valley

Orco Valley

The silent Cambrelle valley, sun-beaten and sheltered from the winds is a route suitable for mountain bikers in a good state of training and leads to the beautiful Santa Pulenta alpine refuge and the consecrated sanctuary at San Vito… and for those who love extreme sports the route can be followed as far as Lago Pratofiorito with many stretches after the refuge where the bike has to be carried, but the destination makes the effort worthwhile. (Altitude on arrival at Pratofiorito 1.740 m asl, with another 440 m of altitude difference).

From Locana to Piandemma

Orco Valley

A beautiful bike ride through the woods, on entirely paved roads, brings you to the village of Piandemma with its little church and an item of curiosity, a solitary bell tower in a meadow. If you feel like a walk when you arrive, Piandemma is the departure point of many paths for walking and hiking. At Locana, at the Antichi e nuovi mestieri (Old and new trades) Visitor Centre, a beautiful little animated theatre describes the hard life of the chimneysweeps.

From Alpette to Campiglia Soana

Orco Valley
Soana Valley
Gran Paradiso Area

The route consists entirely of paved roads. Make sure you have lights for passing through a number of tunnels. It is a long route starting from Alpette, with stretches of moderate gradient and a beautiful view of the  Valle Orco, which connects two slopes and passes through many villages. The Val Soana, which is very narrow on account of its river origin, is covered with lush vegetation and typical broadleaf woodland consisting mainly of chestnut trees which gradually give way to beeches further down. Before setting off again, at Campiglia you can learn something about the role of man in the relationship with the natural environment at the L’uomo e i coltivi (Man and Crops) Visitor Centre.

Nivolet Hill

Orco Valley

The route is entirely paved and suitable for cyclists in a good state of training. It is the most popular hill in the Gran Paradiso with views along the route that make the effort spent in the climb worthwhile all the way up to the glacial basin of Lake Serrù and Piano del Nivolet, where the meandering bends of the Dora form the highest peat bog in Europe with aquatic habitats ideal for the European common frog and many plant species.
