Crossing a bridge, take the path on the left; passed the Dora di Rhêmes through a gangway, go forward into the Valley of the Gran Vaudala torrent. After a steep climb, you reach a plateau where you come across the Gran Vaudala Alp. Now, once arrived to a fork in the road, continue along the same path on the left.

Departure from the main hamlet of Rhêmes Notre Dame with clear signs, passed the Dora di Rhêmes, climb up the Entrelor valley. Don't consider the deviations to the Sort valley or to the Chaudanne village and after some uphill sections in the woods you will come close to the precious Entrelor alpine pasture, also called Pian delle marmotte. Entering the Valley you reach the next characteristic pasture called Plan de Feye where wildlife sightings, particularly Chamois and marmots are frequent.

At the end of the road of Rhêmes Valley lies the village of Thumel, from which, ignoring the farm road on the right which climbs towards the refuge, follow the wide path that starts at the end of the paved road. From the entrance of the trail, past a bridge, continue along the Dora di Rhêmes. Crossing a marshy plain, continue to climb until you cross the dirt track again that leads to a characteristic roman bridge lapped by an impressive waterfall. Passed the bridge and changed the hydrographic side, you reach the Lavassey alp and, as last short uphill section, you arrive to the hut.

Departing from the Village Lillaz you enter, first with a dirt road then with the mule-track, in the great Valley of Valeille; up to the homonym mountain pastures in the heart of the Valley, the scenery is spectacular on the glacial head of the Valley although wounds to the environment, resulting from the great floods of the 90s, are still visible. The initial forest of larch and fir trees, and deciduous trees along the creek, are perfect prelude to the final climb that will take us in front of the hut in the Arolla valley.

Sylvenoire is a village whose intersection lies just beyond Vieyes on the road to Cogne. The route begins along a dirt road to the Plan Pessey alpin pasture, passing the stream and running into the mule track that climbs directly from Vieyes. Continue the climb up to a crossroads, where you choose the fork to the right, crossing a dense forest with notable specimens of spruce, then you get close to the hut of Chantel.

Departing from Lillaz village, after having crossed a piece of the typical alpine forest, it's possible to admire the wonderful waterfall originated by the Urtier Torrent. After taking the valley, you pass a bridge entering into a forest of conifers to get among high altitude alpine pastures near the Alpe Bardoney: here in early summer you can see the great variety of alpine flora and easily sight the curious marmots.

Wonderful high altitude path next to the highest edges of the valley bordering with the Vanoise french Park. The almost flat path runs along the glacial basin of the Serrù lake. It represents an incredible opportunity to observe the alpine environment in its entirety; ibex, chamois and typical Alpine fauna typical of high altitudes frequent the Lake, the prairie houses curious families of marmots, while eagle and bearded vulture often fly over with an eye to the nearby valleys, extraordinarily shaped by the erosive action of the numerous glaciers.

The itinerary starts from the Valnontey village, next to the Paradisia Alpine Garden, where almost all the natural environments of our mountains have been reproduced, so as a butterflies garden, which view is suggested, before walking through the itinerary. The trail winds for the first part into the forest to then continue in the high altitude meadows; the area is one of the most frequented by the animal symbol of the Park, the ibex, other than chamois and marmots.

Pont Valsavarenche - Nivolet

Valley
Valsavarenche
Season

A journey to discover step by step! The mountains often reserve surprises: along narrow paths among rocky walls it's not expected to be faced with a wide valley, where a clear stream flows sluggishly, drawing numerous meanders... The Nivolet plateau inspires indeed the perception of grandiose nature work, that fears only the man's action.

Not to be missed:

- waterfall of the Nivolet torrent
- alpine pastures
- vegetation of the cliffs
- chamois and marmottes
