Simple loop hike that allows you to enter in the wide valley of Valeille, dominated by glaciers. Through a beautiful forest of larches and spruces, populated by numerous songbirds and squirrels, you reach a balcony facing the beautiful waterfall of Lillaz: here we recommend you to follow the various waterfalls along the path, sometimes steep, that enter back in Lillaz near the hydroelectric station.

Although Valnontey is one of the most popular areas of the Cogne valley, you just need to enter in the valley, starting from the big car park of the hamlet, and follow the path on the right orographic side, to breathe the wilderness of the park in its entirety: small forests and clearings alternate and offer the opportunity to easily observe grazing wild animals. At the first bridge (Ponte della Leuttaz) it's suggested to move on the left orographic side and keep going following the cross-country track, without trample, ultil Valmianaz.

From Valnontey hamlet follow a dirt track that, climbing up the Valley, leads to the Valmianaz village, perhaps the best example in Cogne Valley of local architecture, both as individual buildings, and as components of a conglomeration. Along the way is definitely worth stopping by the well known Prà Suppiaz peat-bog, very delicate damp environment, so we suggest to approach with caution to be able to observe the typical aquatic vegetation and fauna (grass snake, common frog, etc).

Departing from the Village Lillaz you enter, first with a dirt road then with the mule-track, in the great Valley of Valeille; up to the homonym mountain pastures in the heart of the Valley, the scenery is spectacular on the glacial head of the Valley although wounds to the environment, resulting from the great floods of the 90s, are still visible. The initial forest of larch and fir trees, and deciduous trees along the creek, are perfect prelude to the final climb that will take us in front of the hut in the Arolla valley.

Sylvenoire is a village whose intersection lies just beyond Vieyes on the road to Cogne. The route begins along a dirt road to the Plan Pessey alpin pasture, passing the stream and running into the mule track that climbs directly from Vieyes. Continue the climb up to a crossroads, where you choose the fork to the right, crossing a dense forest with notable specimens of spruce, then you get close to the hut of Chantel.

The itinerary starts from the Valnontey village, next to the Paradisia Alpine Garden, where almost all the natural environments of our mountains have been reproduced, so as a butterflies garden, which view is suggested, before walking through the itinerary. The trail winds for the first part into the forest to then continue in the high altitude meadows; the area is one of the most frequented by the animal symbol of the Park, the ibex, other than chamois and marmots.

Departing from Lillaz village, after having crossed a piece of the typical alpine forest, it's possible to admire the wonderful waterfall originated by the Urtier Torrent. After taking the valley, you pass a bridge entering into a forest of conifers to get among high altitude alpine pastures near the Alpe Bardoney: here in early summer you can see the great variety of alpine flora and easily sight the curious marmots.
